For years, there have been a number of products for men to choose from when it comes to sex issues. Levitra…Cialis…Viagra…the list goes on and on. But what do women have to rely on? Not much.
This problem will hopefully be taken care of later this month when a Food and Drug Administration panel gathers to debate a drug called flibanserin that was developed to increase a woman’s libido.
University Hospitals clinical psychologist Sheryl Kingsberg states, “The most common sexual problem for women is low desire. These women are really distressed by it.” If you deal with a low sexual desire, of course you’re frustrated. You want to be intimate with your partner, but…you just don’t want to do it.
Flibanserin was first developed by German drug company Boehringer Ingelheim as an antidepressant. While the drug wasn’t effective as a treatment for depression, it did have a libido-enhancing affect on some women, which could lead to the drug completely changing the pharmaceutical world with regards to female sexual health.
The company’s director of clinical research on the drug, Michael Sand, reports that women taking the drug experience increased sexual desire, decreased emotional distress, and satisfying sexual interactions.
Now my only question is…where do I sign up for a prescription?
