Signs & Symptoms of Mesothelioma

The mesothelioma symptoms and signs you experience will differ in each patient, namely because of the region that the cancer occurs in the system. When experiencing the different signs and symptoms, you have to know what you are dealing with, and the type of cancer you are dealing with, in order to know what you are experiencing, and how severe things are going to be with the form of cancer that you are dealing with.

Pleural mesothelioma -
This form is going to directly affect the tissues that are surrounding the lungs, meaning it is a bit more severe than other forms. Some of the signs and mesothelioma symptoms you are going to experience with this form of the cancer includes:
- chest pains (directly below the rib cage);
- pain when you cough;
- unusual lumps around the chest area;
- shortness of breath (even without doing exercise or tiring tasks); and,
- unexplained weight loss, which can’t be attributed to diet or exercise that you have recently increased.

Of course they are not going to be the same with each individual, but these are the most common signs and symptoms with this form of the cancer.

Peritoneal mesothelioma -
This form of the cancer is going to attack the tissues surrounding the abdominal region; it can result in tightness and pain around the area. Some of the many mesothelioma symptoms and signs you will experience here includes:
- abdominal pain and abdominal swelling (which is far more than typical bloating, or swelling that you may have experienced in the past);
- lumps of unexplained tissue that might form around the abodominal region; and,
- weight loss, in high amounts, that is unexplained.
Each individual may experience all of these symptoms, or only some of them; either way, these are going to be the most common symptoms and signs of you having this form of the cancer.

Other mesothelioma and types of cancers -
Since the other forms of the cancer are very rare, there are no clear cut signs and symptoms that one experiences. It can vary from each individual, and the only way to diagnose one of the other forms of the cancer, is to visit a professional who can spot the certain signs you are experiencing, and can diagnose the cancer. Pericardial mesothelioma is one that affects the tissues which surround the heart. With this type of cancer you are going to experience difficulties in breathing, shortness of breath, or chest pain, as some of the most commonly complained of mesothelioma symptoms and signs with this form of the cancer. There is also mesothelioma of tunica vaginilis, which is going to affect tissues surrounding the testicles; the most common early signs that you will notice is swelling or a large mass on the testicle, which has no other tracable cause. Depending on the severity, and depending on the pain you may experiencing, these mesothelioma symptoms and signs might be very severe, and with other individuals you are not going to feel them nearly as much, especially during the early stages of the cancer.

As with any disease or illness, the signs and symptoms are going to vary, depending on the type of illness you are dealing with. Since mesothelioma cancer can affect so many different parts of the body, and will specifically attack one region of the body, it is difficult to pinpoint the exact signs and symptoms one is going to experience, until they are actually experiencing them. When you do notice any of these, or if you are feeling unexplicable pain which has no root cause, it might be wise to seek an opinion from a professional in the area.
Mesothelioma is a very serious form of cancer, and has to be treated and attacked at the onset. For this reason, if you do experience any of these mesothelioma symptoms and signs, you have to visit your primary care doctor immediately, in order to determine what it is. If they are not able to diagnose you, it is wise to see a specialist, in order to rule out the possibility, or to confirm the fear. Either way, you have to take care of it immediately, to ensure the cancer does not spread, and get progressively worse.
